Welcome back to the craft room and today’s 5 Cards from One 6×6 Sheet post. Today I want to share my fourth 6×6 One Sheet Wonder card template. I’ll be walking you through the cutting guide and showing how all five cards come together step-by-step. Join me as we turn a single sheet of patterned paper into 5 beautiful handmade cards.

Supplies & Paper Choice
For today’s cards, I chose a beautiful floral piece of patterned paper from the Bella Bohemia paper pad. This paper originally came from a 12×12 pad by The Paper Studio. After using quite a bit of the paper in other projects over the years, I decided to cut the remainder of the sheets down into 6×6 squares. This has always been one of my favorite paper packs because most of the images are small enough to work beautifully on smaller projects like greeting cards.
For all of my mats, I am using a piece of green textured cardstock from the Canson Papercraft Heritage Colors Assortment pad. I found this at my local Goodwill a few years ago and even though it wasn’t a full pad, $1.99 was far too good of a deal to pass up! It is a lighter weight cardstock, but the texture more than makes up for it.
For my card bases, I am using the cream colored 110lb Recollections cardstock. This is such a lovely weight for card bases and die cuts. Each card base is cut to 8.5” x 5.5” and scored down the middle at 4.25”.
6×6 One Sheet Wonder Cutting Guide
Today’s cutting guide is a no waste template, which is my absolute favorite kind. The paper I am using today does not have a directional pattern to it. However, if your paper does, make sure to take note of that before making your first cut.
The first cut to make is a 2” wide strip from the top of the patterned paper. From there, trim it so you have a 2” x 2” square for card #1 and a 4” x 2” piece for card #2.
The next cut is a 3” wide strip. From this piece, trim two sections that measure 1.75” x 3” for card #3. You will then be left with a 2.5” x 3” piece for card #4.
What you have left over is a 1” x 6” strip that can be cut in half to create two 1” x 3” strips for card #5.
Card #1 – Framed Birthday Card
For card #1, we need the 2” x 2” square. When looking at the design guide in the free PDF download, you will see this piece needs to be cut corner to corner to create four triangles.
Next, we need to cut a mat from the green cardstock that measures 4” x 5.25”. We are then going to adhere each triangle to the corners of the mat to create a frame design.
Once your patterned paper is in place, you have the perfect location for a large stamped sentiment or focal image. Because I don’t have a stamped sentiment large enough to fill that much space, I decided to create a bonus Happy Birthday stacked SVG instead. I designed this sentiment specifically to fit this layout perfectly.
To apply the sentiment to the card front, I am using Thin 3D Foam Squares. Sadly, I only have the black foam version at the moment, but I did cut the sentiment mat from the 110lb cream cardstock. This gives the sentiment just enough lift without making it stand out too much.
To finish the card, I glued the panel to my card base with Bearly Art Precision Glue.
Card #2 – Bold Birthday Sentiment
For our next card, we need the 4” x 2” piece of patterned paper. This is the only card design where the paper direction really matters. I originally designed this card as a horizontal layout before even thinking about the paper I would use. If your patterned paper includes words or images that need to stay horizontal to make sense, feel free to rotate the design into a vertical card layout instead.
For the suggested card design, you will need a mat cut to 4” x 2.25” from the green cardstock. I also cut an additional set of mats for the card front that measure the following:
- Green cardstock: 5 3/8” x 4 1/8”
- Cream cardstock mat: 5.25” x 4”
After gluing the large mats to the card front, I added the patterned paper panel to the left side of the card. I kept this panel about a quarter inch away from the edge of the card base.
This card also has a large area for either a stamped sentiment or focal image depending on your card design. For my version, I created another bonus Happy Birthday SVG file just for you. This time, I cut the shadow layer from the green cardstock and the letters from the 110lb cream cardstock.
I really love how this sentiment fills the card front and gives it such a festive birthday feel.
Card #3 – Simple Just Because Card
For the next card, we will need the two pieces of patterned paper that measure 1.75” x 3”. These are then adhered onto two green mats that measure 2” x 3.25”.
For this card, I chose not to add the additional card front mats. To place my patterned paper pieces, I added them to opposite corners while overlapping them slightly in the center. Feel free to create larger or smaller margins around the edges depending on the look you prefer.
For the sentiment, I am using my all time favorite Card Phrases set by Stampabilities. The “Just Because” sentiment is perfect for those cards you simply feel like sending to a friend or family member. It is stamped with Gina K Designs Amalgam Ink in Obsidian and adhered to a green cardstock mat.
The sentiment can be placed anywhere you like on the card front, but I chose to pop mine up with Thin 3D Foam Squares and adhere it right in the center.
Card #4 – Textured Birthday Design
For our fourth card in the series, we need the patterned paper piece that measures 2.5” x 3”. Let’s glue that onto a green mat measuring 2.75” x 3.25” with Bearly Art Glue and set it aside for a bit.
I wanted to add another mat to the front of the card, so I cut a piece of green cardstock to 5.25” x 4”. I then cut the cream cardstock down to 5” x 3.75”. Rather than leaving it plain, I decided to add a bit more texture to the card by embossing it with one of the folders from the Cuttlebug Oriental Weave set. I absolutely love the all over texture this folder creates.
With all of the added texture from the embossing folder, I wanted to make sure everything would stay securely attached to the cardstock mat. To do this, I used both Scor-Tape and Bearly Art Glue. For some reason, I was having the hardest time getting these layers lined up straight, so I was very glad the wet glue was there to help. As you can see in the image below, I actually had to pull the panels apart and start over. Without that extra layer of glue over the Scor-Tape, there is no way it would have come back apart cleanly.
After the two layers were finally straight, I added the patterned paper mat to the left side of the card front. I did my best to make sure there were equal margins on three sides of the piece.
The stamped sentiment is also from the Card Phrases set by Stampabilities and is probably the sentiment I use most often from the set. I love how long it is, although I will admit I eventually cut the sentiment in half so I could use it in smaller spaces. So now every time I want to use it at the full width, I have to piece it back together first. But honestly, it’s totally worth it.
To apply the birthday sentiment to the card front, I used more Thin 3D Foam Squares to add a bit more dimension. I will fully admit I probably use way too much foam tape on my projects. I just cannot stand the thought of a long piece of cardstock only being supported on the ends and sagging in the middle! So yes… I absolutely overdo it, and I will happily die on that hill. LOL
To finish the sentiment placement, I lined it up along the left edge of the patterned paper mat. This left about the same amount of open space on both sides of the embossed panel.
Card #5 – Love You Card Design
Our last card uses the two 1″ x 3″ strips of patterned paper. For the green mats, cut three pieces measuring 1.25″ x 3.25″. The cardstock strip for the sentiment is trimmed down to 1″ x 3″. I used the “I Love You” stamp from the Waffle Flower Peony Notes stamp set.
I loved the embossed panel on the fourth card so much that I wanted to use it again here as well. This time, instead of including the extra green mat, I decided to leave it off entirely. The embossed panel itself is cut down to 4″ x 5.25″.
Before adhering the panel to the card base, I attached the patterned paper and sentiment strips first. Starting with the top panel, I then added the bottom panel while taking care to line it up with equal margins along the sides and bottom of the embossed background. I then added the sentiment strip right in the center.
Once everything was assembled, I adhered the completed panel to the card base for the finished look.
