Welcome back to the craft room and today’s 6×6 One Sheet Wonder with a Fun Fold Card post. A while ago, I shared a simple One Sheet Wonder template using 6×6 paper. Today, I’m excited to share a brand-new version.
This updated template is completely zero-waste and makes the most of every inch of a 6×6 sheet. It also includes one fun fold card to keep things interesting. Whether you’re using up favorite patterned paper or looking for a fresh layout idea, this is a fun and efficient way to stretch your stash.

For today’s cards, I’m using patterned paper from the Echo Park Paper Co. Love Notes paper pad. This double-sided pad gives you even more options for a One Sheet Wonder template. Before making your first cut, check the direction of the pattern. If it has a definite top, be sure to cut accordingly.
For the card bases, I’m using 110lb Heavyweight Recollections cardstock in white. Cut the pieces to 8.5″ x 5.5″ and score three of them at 4.25″. I’ll share the different measurements for Card #4 when we get there.
All mats are cut from 110lb Heavyweight Recollections cardstock in black. Unless noted otherwise, each mat is ¼” larger than the patterned paper. This creates a nice ⅛” border around each panel.
For the card bases I am using 2 pieces of 110lb Heavy Weight Recollections card in white. These will be cut down to 8.5″ x 5.5″ with three of them scored down the middle at 4.25″. When we get to card #4 I’ll discuss the card base measurements. All of the card mats are also 110lb Heavy Weight Recollections card in black. Unless otherwise noted, all of the matts are a quarter inch larger than the pattern paper to give us a nice eight (1/8) inch boarder.
I’ll also be using a variety of sentiment stamps for these cards. As always, I’m stamping with my trusted MISTI stamping tool and Gina K Amalgam Ink for crisp black impressions.
Card #1 – Get Well Soon
For the first card, use a piece of patterned paper cut to 3″ x 3.5″. Adhere it to a mat measuring 3.25″ x 3.75″. I followed the sketch and placed the panel toward the top of the card base.
The “Get Well Soon” sentiment from the Stampabilities Card Phrases stamp set is stamped directly onto the card base. This keeps the design clean and simple.
Card #2 – Thinking of You
Card #2 can be designed in several different ways. Start by adhering the three 1″ x 3.5″ patterned paper strips to 1.25″ x 3.75″ black mats. Then decide how you want to arrange them.
Because I chose a striped paper, the direction really doesn’t matters. For this sketch, pay close attention to the pattern’s orientation. I placed the strips horizontally across the card base.
To finish the card, I stamped “Thinking of You” from the Card Phrases stamp set directly onto the base for a cohesive look.
Card #3 – Hello Dear Friend
After adhering the 2.5″ x 2.5″ patterned paper to a 2.75″ x 2.75″ mat, I realized I wanted to change things up a bit. With the striped paper, rounding only two corners or placing the square at an angle didn’t feel right. Instead, I adhered the panel straight toward the top of the card front. This time, I added two sentiments directly to the card base. Using the Opposites Attract stamp set from The Greetery, I stamped the bold “Hello” first. Then I added the script “dear friend” to complete the design.
Card #4 – Fun Fold Happy Birthday
Before assembling the card base, I stamped the sentiment onto the patterned paper. I wasn’t sure how the thin font would show up on the busy pattern, but it was worth trying. For this card, I’m using the “Happy Birthday” stamp from the Technique Tuesday Cosmo stamp set.
After stamping the sentiment and setting it aside to dry, it’s time to build the fun fold base. Trim the final card base down to 8″ x 4.25″. This leaves a leftover strip of heavyweight cardstock that’s perfect for stamping future sentiments. On the 8″ side, score at 2.5″ and burnish well with a bone folder.
I chose to add an extra matted panel to the inside of the card. The black mat measures 4″ x 5.25″, and the white layer measures 3.75″ x 5″.
Adding adhesive to a partial card front can be tricky. To help place the Scor-Tape correctly, turn the panel over and mark where the card front overlaps on the back. This ensures the adhesive won’t seal the card shut.
After stepping back for a bit, I realized I didn’t love the “Happy Birthday” sentiment stamped directly onto the patterned paper. It felt a little lost.
To fix it, I re-stamped the sentiment onto the leftover cardstock from trimming the base. I backed it with a black mat and adhered it to the front of the card. This simple change made the sentiment pop — and I love the final result.
Stepped-Up One Sheet Wonder Cards
While the clean and simple cards are beautiful on their own, I wanted to share a second set using the same cutting guide. This time, I added 3D embossed backgrounds for extra texture.
I started with several embossed panels from my sister’s craft stash. We spent an afternoon creating backgrounds for me to bring home and use. The patterned paper for this set is a 6″ scrap from a 12″ x 12″ paper pack. I can’t remember the exact collection, but it was most likely a Recollections pad from Michaels.
Once again, I used a variety of sentiment stamps with Gina K Amalgam Ink for crisp black impressions.
Stepped-Up Card #1
This card starts with a panel embossed using the Stampin’ Up Tufted 3D Embossing Folder, cut to 4.25″ x 5.5″. Instead of placing the patterned paper panel at the top, as the sketch suggests, I centered it on the card front. The sentiment, “Enjoy the Little Things,” from the Crafters Square The Little Things stamp set, was die-cut using the Spellbinders Classic Large Ovals. The mat was cut with the Spellbinders Classic Large Scallop Ovals.
To add dimension, I popped up the oval using thin 3D foam squares.
Stepped-Up Card #2
I love how this next card turned out. It begins with a panel embossed using the Tim Holtz Vault Diamonds Texture Fades. The panel is trimmed to 4.125″ x 5.375″ and adhered directly to the card base with Scor-Tape. To give the design a little more breathing room, I trimmed the black mats behind the patterned paper strips to about ⅛”. I then staggered the strips across the card front for added movement.
The sentiment, “You Are Simply the Best,” from Rubbernecker Stamps (now Brass & Bliss), is stamped on white cardstock and matted in black to tie everything together.
Stepped-Up Card #3
Card #3 begins with another embossed panel from the Stampin’ Up Tufted 3D Embossing Folder, this time cut to 4″ x 5.25″. I added a black mat trimmed to 4.125″ x 5.375″ for contrast. Following the sketch, I rounded two corners of the square panel using the We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper on the ¼” setting.
The “Thinking of You” sentiment from the Stampabilities Card Phrases stamp set was stamped onto white cardstock and matted in black to continue the cohesive look.
Stepped-Up Fun Fold Card
The stepped-up fun fold begins with another embossed panel from the Tim Holtz Vault Diamonds Texture Fades, cut to 2″ x 3.75″ and layered onto a 2.25″ x 4″ black mat. To create the stepped-up fun fold base, trim your cardstock to 8″ x 4.25″. On the 8″ side, score at 2.5″ and burnish well with a bone folder.
I used the same “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the Technique Tuesday Cosmo stamp set for consistency. The inside panel measurements remain the same as before:
- White layer: 3.75″ x 5″
- Black mat: 4″ x 5.25″
Final Thoughts

The embossed panels add texture and interest without overwhelming the design. It’s amazing how one small change can completely shift the look of a card.
