Hello my friends and welcome back to the craft room! Can you believe Christmas is only one week away? For the first time in a long time, we are finished! The Christmas cards were sent out earlier in December and the gift buying was finished last week. We can sit back and enjoy the holidays now.
Today I want to share a card that I considered using for our 2022 Christmas cards. I created this last December using products from Tim Holtz and Simon Says Stamp. The dies are from the exclusive 2021 Diecember Dash Away All set from Tim Holtz and the stamp set is the Nutty and Bright set from Simon Says Stamp.

The Blended Background
The card began with an ink blended background using Distress Inks on a piece of 6″ x 3″ Strathmore Bristol Smooth watercolor card. As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I don’t do much ink blending and because of this I wasn’t sure how the card was going to turn out. I did know that the lighter colors should shine behind the moon so that’s where I started. The inks used are Broken China, Prize Ribbon, Villainous Potion, Blueprint Sketch, and Black Soot. I tried adding the colors from lightest to darkest focusing on the position of the moon. Black Soot was added around the perimeter of the card to finish off the background.

In my mind adding some water splatter would give me a stary night image. This is where things went downhill fast. As you can see, the water droplets are WAY to big! Nope! Didn’t like it at all, however, since this was a prototype I carried on. Santa’s sleigh was cut from two pieces of black card and glued together with Art Glitter Glue. The moon was cut from a single layer of brushed gold card from my stash.

The Finished Card
The sentiment from the Nutty and Bright stamp set was heat embossed with a very old bottle of gold embossing powder. As you can see, it looks rather chunky and unattractive. It is definitely not good for fine line sentiment embossing. The panel is mounted on a piece of black card and then placed on a top folding white card base that measures 6 1/4″ x 3 1/4″.

While I did like the design of this card, I decided not to use it for our 2022 cards. I’m sure after making 32 cards my ink blending would improve, so I will definitely use it at some point.
Thank you for stopping by the craft room today. Did you get this exclusive die last year? If so, I would love to see what you’ve done with it. Drop me a link in the comments.
Enjoy your last week before Christmas and I will see you again next time.
