Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Distress Watercolor Pencils Tulip Birthday post. We are also celebrating the start of National Craft Month! Let’s kick this party off with a beautiful birthday card using Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Pencils set #4. We will also be using one of my favorite Waffle Flower stamp sets, Tulips.
Distress Watercolor Tulips
I began this card with a piece of Strathmore Bristol Vellum card. The water color pads are rather large so I trimmed a sheet down to 4.25” x 5.5” with my Tim Holtz Rotary Trimmer.
Using my Hero Arts Mini Misti I stamped one of the Tulip images with GinaK amalgam ink. While the ink was air drying I gathered the rest of my supplies for this portion of the card. I still haven’t put all of my Distress Colored Pencils together in a case, so it was a little easier to pick the colors I wanted to use. I also grabbed my fine point water brushes. I’m not sure where I purchased this brush, but I think it was from Michael’s in a set of three.
There are a number of different ways to use water color pencils, however for this project I chose to utilize two of them. I went direct to paper with the pencil and I also chose to pick up the color from the tip of the pencil with my brush. I created a short video sharing the way I used these two techniques. I am so happy with how these flowers turned out! I chose to use Set #4 of the Distress Watercolor Pencils. Out of that set I used Wilted Violet and Chipped Sapphire for the blossoms. The leaves and stems I used Shappy Shutters and Mowed Lawn with a little bit of Scattered Straw for the centers of the flowers.
Finishing The Birthday Card
While the Tulips were drying completely I began working on the rest of the card. As usual my card base is made with Recollections White 110lb card cut down to an A4 size of 4.25” x 5.5”. I wanted to do something a little different so I went searching through my stash. I found my old Tim Holtz and Sizzix On The Edge Alterations die. Not only did I cut the edge of the brushed silver mat and the top layer with the Tulips, but I also cut the front of the card base. All of the paper layers are adhered to the card base with scor-tape.
The sentiment for this birthday card is from the Occasions stamp set by Kaiser Craft and stamped with GinaK amalgam ink. I really like the simple font used in this set with this card. To ensure I have a good impression, I always use my Mini Misti by Hero Arts and My Sweet Petunia.
Distress Watercolor Pencils Tulip Birthday
I love with the finished card. It is simple and stylish and perfect for the intended birthday girl! To add a little bit of dimension to this card I cut two extra layers of the tulips from a piece of scrap card. The layers are glued together with Art Glitter Glue and the finished focal image is also glued to the card front. You can see the extra dimension in the image below.
