Elegant White on White Cards: Simple and Beautiful

Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Elegant White on White Cards: Simple and Beautiful post. Today we are going to discover the simplicity and beauty of white on white card designs. I have been enamored with this technique for a while now. In my mind I didn’t own the “right” type of die, so I never tried it. After picking up the Brass & Bliss Foliage Trio Die set at the Stamp and Scrapbook Expo in June, I finally had “it”. Let me show you the card projects I created with just one of the dies from this set.

Supplies Used

To create the cards for today’s project, I used a handful of supplies, starting with the Brass & Bliss Foliage Trio die set. I didn’t know exactly how many cards were going to come from this crafting session, so I die cut a bunch of them from white Recollections 65lb card stock. To keep everything contained and safe, I tossed them into a 4 1/2” x 9 1/2” scrapbook.com envelope. While prepping supplies, I also decided to use a few embossing folders. As you can see in the image below, I chose to use the card fronts embossed with the Tim Holtz Alterations Bricked folder as well as the Cuttlebug Devine Swirls folder.

All of my white card is from Recollections, and I used both 110lb and 65lb. To add a lot of texture to one of my cards, I found the last piece of white card from the Wausau Paper pack Crinkles Cardstock. Also, for texture, I used my Martha Stewart scoreboard along with the envelope attachment. To add sentiments to the cards, I used my ever-trusty Mini Misti with Distress Archival Ink in Hickory Smoke. I chose this color rather than black so the sentiment wouldn’t overpower the white on white designs.

The Inspiration Card

Not long after purchasing the die, I gave this technique a try. I started by cutting four of the leaf branch’s and then glued them onto a card front. After the Art Glitter Glue was dry, I trimmed the panel down to 3 1/4” x 5” and adhered it to my card. The sentiment I chose for this card is from the Crafter’s Square “The Little Things” stamp set from the Dollar Tree.

White on White Card #1

To start off my white on white crafting adventure, I wanted to use the last bit of the Crinkle Card by Wausau. I cut this piece down to 3 1/4” x 4 1/4” and adhered it to the card with Scor-tape. I added one of the leaf branches to the panel with glue. The texture differences between the smooth card and the crinkle card is amazing! For the sentiment, I used one of the many sentiments from the stamp set “Leaf Canopy” by AlteNew.

Card #2

My second card is a little more textured but just as beautiful. It started with the Tim Holtz Alterations Bricked embossing folder. The panel is trimmed down to 4” x 5 1/4” and adhered to the card with Thin 3D Foam Squares to add a little more dimension to the card. When adding the leaf branch, I also included one that was cut from vellum. It is a very subtle addition to the texture on this card and almost looks like a shadow. The sentiment is from one of my favorite AlteNew sets, “Beautiful Day”.

White on White Card #3

The third card I made started out with a card front panel that I designed in Affinity Designer for the iPad. The simple lattice panel measures 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”. The lattice portion is only 2 3/4” x 5” with an additional 1 1/4” space for the sentiment. Before adding it to the card, I brought out my score board and added two lines directly under the lattice portion. Making this a horizontal card, I glued the leaf branch to the left side of the panel. The sentiment is from the Stampabilities “Card Phrases” set and stamped onto the card panel.

Elegant White on White Card #4

The next card is my absolute favorite of them all. The card panel, measuring 4” x 5 1/4” is partially embossed with the Cuttlebug Devine Swirls embossing folder. I then added a horizontal score line at the bottom of the Swirls design. From there, I turned the panel around on the score board. On the 4″ side of the panel, I added more score lines every quarter of an inch from the bottom of the card to the horizontal score line. To finish off the card, I added a piece of white Offray satin ribbon right above the horizontal score line. The leaf branch was added with a few pieces of the small Thin 3D Foam Squares to add even more dimension to the card front. This card is perfect on its own, so no sentiment is needed.

Final White on White Card #5

The final card I created is a perfect example of a clean and simple design. This card would also be a great card for the men in your life. Starting with a panel cut to 4” x 5 1/4” and my score board, I used the envelope triangle to add diagonal lines to the panel. From there, I also included long vertical lines starting 1/2” from the left side of the panel. This alone would be the perfect clean and simple card design with a stamped sentiment. Adding the leaf branch from Brass & Bliss just added an extra touch of class. The sentiment I chose for this card is from Honeybee Stamps “Everything Wonderful” set. It is stamped directly to the card front with Hickory Smoke archival ink.
