Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Envelope & Matching Card post. Back in February of 2012, I came across even more fun Stamp TV tutorials to try out. Making cards was becoming second nature, but sometimes a unique card shape calls for a little extra creativity—especially when it comes to the envelope! That’s when you gather your supplies and dive in. Today, I’m sharing two handmade envelopes I created, plus a coordinating card for one of them.
Envelope
There are so many fun techniques out there, and this week has been a busy one! I’ve been playing around with the Sponging a Layer technique. (You can see that post and all the samples [here – Faux Layer].) While working on it, I realized the green card sample was just the right size for another project. It gave me the perfect excuse to try GinaK’s Little Label Card and Envelope. You can watch her tutorial by following this link: [Little Label Card and Envelope].
The envelope from GinaK’s video is such a cute and practical size. It’s perfect for holding a gift card or a small note. I could see it tucked into a bouquet for a friend who’s feeling under the weather, or attached to a wrapped present. Here’s the one I made using a 6” x 6” piece of scrapbook paper.
As you can see, this Texas Roadhouse gift card fits perfectly inside—with room to spare if you want to tuck in a little note too.
Matching Card
I’ve always been fascinated by card projects that use the full shape from a Nestability die. But honestly, I never paid close attention to how it was done—until this video. As Gina shows, it’s super easy. In fact, you might already be doing it without realizing!
Here’s the basic process: cut two shapes—one for the front and one for the back. On the back piece, score a line near the top. For small cards, score about ¼” down. For larger ones, like mine, ½” works better. Then, use a strong adhesive like Scor-Tape or red line tape to attach the two panels together. Once the adhesive is in place, gently bend the back panel along the score line to open up the card.
Here’s the finished card, paired with an envelope I made from an 8” x 8” piece of cardstock.
This envelope was made the same way as the smaller one in the video. For an 8” x 8” square, score the top at 1 ¾” and the bottom at 5 ½”. Then rotate the paper and score both sides at 1 ¼”.
The card shown here is about 4 5/8″ wide, so it fits with room to spare. After measuring, I found that this envelope can hold a card up to 5 3/8″ x 3 ½” comfortably.
