Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Finish Your Card Fronts Fast post. I don’t know about you all, but I have a ton of finished backgrounds in my stash. While cleaning up from my last project, I came across four that had been tucked away for years. Since I don’t remember exactly how I created them, it felt like the perfect time to give them new life.
To complete these backgrounds, I focused on choosing perfectly sized sentiments—ones that enhance the design rather than overpower it. With just this simple addition, I now have a beautiful set of mail-ready cards! Let’s take a look at how I finished them.
Just for You Card
The first card I’m finishing features an ink-smooshed background with a die-cut overlay. Based on my Distress Ink swatches, I’d guess the colors used for the background include Fired Brick, Rusty Hinge, Crackling Campfire, and possibly Abandoned Coral. The die-cut design comes from the Tim Holtz and Sizzix Mixed Media #2 die set, adding an extra layer of texture and interest.
For the sentiment, I chose a long, thin phrase from the Stampabilities Card Phrases stamp set, perfectly sized to fit along the bottom edge. I stamped it in Black Soot Distress Archival ink for a crisp contrast. To complete the design, I matted the card on a dark green base, which enhances the red and orange tones in person—though in photos, it appears almost black.
Just Because Card
The second card features a beautifully stenciled background, likely created with Villainous Potion and Seedless Preserves Distress Inks. I used the Spring Flower Mandala stencil from Elizabeth Craft Designs to add an intricate design. At some point after making this background, I had already mounted it on a black card mat, so I kept things cohesive by adding a matching black mat to the “Just Because” sentiment from the Card Phrases stamp set.
For a crisp, bold look, I stamped the sentiment in Obsidian Black Amalgam ink from Gina K. To add dimension, I popped it up with foam tape, giving the card just the right amount of depth and contrast.
The final two backgrounds were most likely created at the same time—though it’s been long enough that I don’t remember exactly what technique I used. Both feature an ink-blended background in a rich mix of Villainous Potion, Seedless Preserves, and Picked Raspberry Distress Inks. I used the Fancy Kaleidoscope stencil from Picket Fence Studios on both, adding intricate detail and texture to the designs.
Best Wishes on This Special Day Card
The rich background colors were always destined to pair beautifully with a silver metallic card mat, so I carried that theme through to the sentiment as well. For the greeting, the Best Wishes sentiment from the Gardena Wishes stamp set by The Ton Stamps felt like the perfect choice, embossed in silver with Stampendous embossing powder.
What I love most about this design is how subtle the sentiment appears at first—until the light catches it, revealing a beautiful shine. To complete the card, a few Metallic Silver Confetti embellishments from Pretty Pink Posh added just the right finishing touch.
Thinking of You Card
My final card, made with the second ink-blended background, also features a heat-embossed sentiment. This time, instead of silver, I used Ranger Detail White embossing powder for a crisp contrast. I returned to my Card Phrases stamp set to find the perfect sentiment.
To tie in the white from the embossed sentiment and the shine of the silver card mat, I added a few embellishments. This time, I chose Rock Candy Confetti from Trinity Stamps. I even placed a piece at the center of the stencil design, which I think looks absolutely adorable!
