Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday 3-D Tag post. Back in April 2010, I decided to step way outside my creative comfort zone and try the StampTV 3-D Tag challenge. While the experience was definitely interesting, I won’t lie—it was also a bit stressful because I had no idea what I was doing! Even after all these years (and a few more attempts), I still don’t gravitate toward this type of tag-making. That said, I’m glad I gave it a shot, and I’d love to show you what I created back then.
3-D Tag
That week on StampTV, one of the many fun challenges was to create a 3-D tag. As you can probably tell, I was completely winging it—but hey, it wasn’t college algebra, so I decided to just have fun with it. LOL!
At the time, I was totally inspired by the dimensional tags Tim Holtz was known for, and that’s the look I was aiming for here. The background text, tutu shape at the top, and butterfly all came from a paper pack I’d had in my stash for years. The small flower was from a bunch my sister had left over after making some wedding bouquets, and the larger flower—also purchased years before—was from Western Crafts (a.k.a. Wally World).
Everything got a touch of Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges. Over that, I stamped a swirl image from Hot Off The Press and heat embossed it with clear powder. To make the swirl stand out even more, I blended some Vivid Brown ink on top. It might be hard to see in the photo, but all the elements are attached with foam dots to give them a pop off the tag base.
So… what do you think? Should I stick to flat tags and leave the 3-D versions to the pros? LOL!
