Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday 3 Things Challenge post. Back in July of 2008, I took part in my very first online card challenge! Looking back, I can confidently say that participating in these challenges over the years has played a big role in helping me grow as a card maker. That said, I have to give my past self some creditโthe coloring on that little bird still holds up pretty well! Letโs take a closer look at that original post and see how far things have come.
3 Things Challenge
There was a 3 Things Challenge posted over at StartaScrapbook.com, and this is the card I created for it. The challenge was to make a layout or card using at least these three items:
- Ribbon or fiber
- a quote
- a tag.
Taking a break from my crazy summer schedule, I managed to create this card last night. The quote I used is from John Lennon: โLife is what happens while youโre busy making other plans.โ The bird stamp is from Martha Stewart, and I colored it using Koh-I-Noor pencils with baby oil blending. Adding ribbon was something new for me at the timeโI actually ended up taking apart the yellow and green layers just to get it placed exactly where I wanted it!

Tags arenโt really my thing, so I tucked that element onto the back of the card instead.

Thank you for joining me for today’s Flashback Friday 3 Things Challenge post. Looking back on this challenge, I can see a few things have stayed the same: I still donโt use much ribbon or fiber, and tags are still pretty rare on my cards. But I also see how much my style and confidence have grown over the yearsโand thatโs one of the reasons I love revisiting these early projects. Theyโre a great reminder of where I started and how far Iโve come. Do you ever look back at your older cards or layouts? What has changedโand whatโs stayed the sameโfor you? Let me know down in the comments.
