Flashback Friday 3 Things Challenge

Posted on May 2, 2025June 10, 2025 by Leen

Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday 3 Things Challenge post. Back in July of 2008, I took part in my very first online card challenge! Looking back, I can confidently say that participating in these challenges over the years has played a big role in helping me grow as a card maker. That said, I have to give my past self some creditโ€”the coloring on that little bird still holds up pretty well! Letโ€™s take a closer look at that original post and see how far things have come.

3 Things Challenge

There was a 3 Things Challenge posted over at StartaScrapbook.com, and this is the card I created for it. The challenge was to make a layout or card using at least these three items:

  • Ribbon or fiber
  • a quote
  • a tag.

Taking a break from my crazy summer schedule, I managed to create this card last night. The quote I used is from John Lennon: โ€œLife is what happens while youโ€™re busy making other plans.โ€ The bird stamp is from Martha Stewart, and I colored it using Koh-I-Noor pencils with baby oil blending. Adding ribbon was something new for me at the timeโ€”I actually ended up taking apart the yellow and green layers just to get it placed exactly where I wanted it!

Tags arenโ€™t really my thing, so I tucked that element onto the back of the card instead.

Thank you for joining me for today’s Flashback Friday 3 Things Challenge post. Looking back on this challenge, I can see a few things have stayed the same: I still donโ€™t use much ribbon or fiber, and tags are still pretty rare on my cards. But I also see how much my style and confidence have grown over the yearsโ€”and thatโ€™s one of the reasons I love revisiting these early projects. Theyโ€™re a great reminder of where I started and how far Iโ€™ve come. Do you ever look back at your older cards or layouts? What has changedโ€”and whatโ€™s stayed the sameโ€”for you? Let me know down in the comments.

If you enjoyed this peek back at my first online card challenge, you might also like some of the other challenge-inspired cards Iโ€™ve shared over the years. You can check out more of those posts HERE and see how different prompts have sparked all kinds of creativity! Until then, have a fantastic weekend and I’ll see you back in the craft room again soon!
