Flashback Friday April Challenge Card #2

Posted on September 26, 2025August 17, 2025 by Leen

Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday April Challenge Card #2 post. I don’t know about you guys, but I love patterned paper. Itโ€™s so pretty, and I just canโ€™t seem to resist buying it. That said, I also struggle to actually use patterned paper. Why? Thatโ€™s a great question! Honestly, Iโ€™m not sure what the answer is. LOL

Part of it goes back to my scrapbooking daysโ€”I couldnโ€™t bring myself to cover up such gorgeous paper with a bunch of photos, but at the same time it felt wasteful to only feature a single small image on a big 12×12 layout. Because of that, working with patterned paper has always been a challenge for me, and this card was no exception! Letโ€™s take a look and see how it turned out.

The second challenge from the release party was called Pretty Paper Triple Play.

The goal: use three different patterned papers on a single card.
My reaction: YIKES!

As intimidating as it sounded, this was exactly the kind of challenge I needed. I love patterned paper. I have way too much patterned paper. But when it comes to actually combining patterns, I freeze up and usually just stash it away. Even with coordinating paper packs, Iโ€™ve never felt confident about how to use them โ€œthe right way,โ€ which is why I tend to hoard instead of create.

This challenge pushed me out of that comfort zone, and Iโ€™m so glad it did. Not only did I make myself layer up those patterns, but the finished card actually turned out pretty darn well!

Thank you for joining me for today’s Flashback Friday April Challenge Card #2 post. I was so pleased with myself after finishing this cardโ€”it really came together into a cohesive design that I love. Even though Iโ€™ve always struggled with mixing patterns, working from a paper pad with coordinating designs made the process so much easier this time. It gave me the confidence to actually use the paper instead of just hoarding it away!

Let me know down in the comments if you love working with patterned paper, or if it gives you as much trouble as it does me. And if you have any tips for choosing multiple patterns that play nicely together, please shareโ€”I truly need all the help I can get in that regard.

Donโ€™t forget to check out the first challenge card I made for the April 2011 StampTV Release Party: Flashback Friday April Challenge Card #1! Until then, have a fantastic weekend and Iโ€™ll meet you back here in the craft room soon!
