Flashback Friday Batiks Inspired Thank You Card

Posted on June 7, 2024May 30, 2024 by Leen

Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Batiks Inspired Thank You Card post. When I first transitions from scrapbooking to card making, StampTV with Gina K. was my go-to for inspiration. Today’s card was no exception, but in addition to inspiration I learned something new. I had never heard of the term Batik before. In case you also have no idea what that means let me explain. Batik originated from the island of Java, Indonesia and is a way of coloring fabric with the use of wax as a resist. Here is a link to a quick video explaining the process of creating this beautiful fabric; Hand-made Batik | Step-by-Step Process for Making Batik. Below is a card with my interpretation created with a heat embossed resist technique.

Batiks Inspired Thank You Card

Here is my attempt at mimicking the Batik fabrics from GinaK’s Inspiration Challenge this week on StampTV. I like how in some of the fabric, the main design is white, and the background is multi-colored. I think it’s such a striking affect, and this is just what I wanted to recreate in my thank you card.

Before using the emboss resist technique on plain white card, I added Memento’s Summer Sky in a rather blotchy fashion first. The panel was then heat embossed with clear embossing powder and my Autumn Leaves “Flourishes v2” stamp. Adding different layers of color in Bahama Blue, Paris Dusk, and Danube Blue gave me the look I wanted. After each color application, I did go back with a clean paper towel to clean of any ink from the embossed surface.

The Thank You sentiment was printed on the computer. I then cut and embossed it with the Petite Oval Nestabilities die. Because I also cut the next size oval out as well for a mat, I did edge the sentiment layer with Danube Blue ink.

Thank you for joining me for today’s Flashback Friday Batiks Inspired Thank You Card post. This was such a fun technique to work with. Even though I only needed one Thank You card, this card could easily be mass produced. Each card would have the same look, but they would also still be very different. Have you heard of Batik fabric before? Let me know in the comments below if you have. Until then, have a fantastic weekend and I will see you back in the craft room real soon.
