Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Double Embossing post. Today I want to share another fun technique that I found online back in November of 2009. The double embossing technique produces such great results, I’m not sure why I don’t use it more often. The only special item needed to complete this technique is a tan embossing mat. This allows you to emboss with a thin metal die without actually cutting the shape from the cardstock. Let’s dive right in and check it out.
Double Embossing
Here is another fun technique that I found online while browsing card-making videos and blogs, called Double Embossing. There are quite a few videos floating around, but the one I keep coming back to is by Nilda Rockenbach.
I did have to make a few adjustments to the sandwich in order to emboss the cardstock with the embossing folder. The way Nilda explained it didn’t quite work with my Cuttlebug machine, so a little experimentation was definitely needed.
Emboss cardstock with folder:
- A plate
- Chipboard shim
- Folder with cardstock to be embossed
- 2 piece chipboard frame
- C plate
Emboss the nestabilities frame:
- A plate
- Chipboard shim
- B plate
- Tan mat
- Cardstock
- Nestabilitites die
- Chipboard shim
- B plate
The final image shows a clear, deep impression from the Nestabilities die. If you don’t want quite such a deep impression—like on the snowman card shown above—simply leave out the bottom chipboard shim. This gives you more control over the final look while still keeping all of that beautiful embossed detail.
