Hello and welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Fall Leaves & Baker’s Twine post. In last Friday’s post, Flashback Friday DIY Pinterest Idea, I shared a fun way to create your own baker’s twine. Today I would like to share a card project I created with my own baker’s twine. Today’s card also features many Tim Holtz products. Unfortunately, the Grunge Paper that I used to create the focal point on this card is no longer available. This product isn’t necessary for the card, so use what you have on hand. With that said, let’s get right to today’s project.
Fall Leaves with DIY Baker’s Twine
The other day I found a great tutorial for do it yourself baker’s twine. In my post, Do It Yourself Pinterest Idea I did a little experimenting of my own. With some of that baker’s twine I decided to create a fall card.
The card base is Pure Luxury card stock in Ivory with a layer of Kraft Kore paper from Tim Holtz. It was embossed with the Swirls embossing folder from Cuttlebug. The leaves are cut from the Tattered Leaves Sizzix die also by Tim Holtz.
The Leaves
To make the leaves I first covered some Grunge Paper with a crumpled piece of dictionary paper. Using the direct to paper application I added color with Distress Inks in Mustard Seed, Peeled Paint, Rusty Hinge and Fired Brick. Then I applied some Antique Linen with a sponge dauber to tone down some of the brighter colors. After cutting the leaves from the Tattered Leaves die I edged them with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I also applied a heavier layer of ink on the stem and the back of each leaf.
The DIY Baker’s Twine
I absolutely love the Kraft Kore paper by Tim Holtz. It adds a nice touch to the fall theme of this card. To add a bit more color, I used a piece of DIY Baker’s Twine. This was created with Ivory Cebelia DMC thread in size 10 with my Plumtastic Purple Bic Mark-It pen. As you can see, it is different than twine you can purchase from the store. But it adds another hand made element that I really like.
The best part about this card is it can be used for any occasion in the fall season. In fact, I’m going to use it as a birthday card for my nephew, whose birthday happens to be today. Ok, so it will be a belated birthday card. But the love is there!
