Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Gift Card/Money Holder post. Sometimes the best gift is simply cash or a gift card. The year I made this project, I wanted to treat my mom to a full year of lunches at the Senior Center. Cash or gift cards deserve pretty packaging, so I came up with this easy pocket-style holder.
Gift Card/Money Holder
Here is a gift card/money holder that I made for a Christmas gift that year. It was very simple to create. The card starts as a standard 4 ¼” x 5 ½” size. I used a Score-Pal to score the front panel at 4 ¼”. Then, I trimmed the back panel to 5 ¾” so I could fold up 1 ½” to create the pocket.
Next, I covered both the inside and outside with patterned paper from my local scrapbook store. The text comes from a Tim Holtz stamp, embossed with Memento ink and clear embossing powder. I finished everything off with a thin ribbon for a simple, polished look.

Here are the measurements that I didn’t include in the original post:
- Cut the card base to 10″ x 5.5″
- On the 10″ side score at 4.25″ & 8.5″
I hope that clears up any confusion. Honestly, it looks like I made this more complicated than it needed to be! So that brings up the question: Do you often overcomplicate your projects when crafting, or do you take time to plan everything out before cutting your paper?
