Flashback Friday Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Posted on March 6, 2026March 5, 2026 by Leen

Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss post. This won’t be the typical crafty project you usually see here, but I still wanted to celebrate one of my favorite children’s authors and the joy of reading Dr. Seuss books.

Back in March of 2012, I decided to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday in what seemed like the best possible way… even if it was a little bit gross. Won’t you join me for some green eggs and ham?

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

In honor of this special day, and this amazing author, I had green eggs and ham for breakfast that morning! It seemed like the perfect tribute to one of the most beloved children’s books ever written. Of course, the real question is whether Sam-I-Am would have approved of my cooking skills.

Dr. Seuss books were such a big part of my childhood growing up. The playful rhymes, silly characters, and colorful illustrations made reading fun and memorable. Later on, I was able to relive that same joy when reading those books with my son.

Although that son is now 14 years old, the one thing he absolutely refuses to give away is his collection of Dr. Seuss books—and honestly, I’m glad. Those stories hold so many wonderful memories from when he was little. Dr. Seuss books are such a fun way to celebrate Read Across America Day, classroom reading time, or simply introduce young readers to the joy of books.

Out of all the titles to choose from (and there are quite a few!), I think my favorites have always been Green Eggs and Ham, The Foot Book, and of course How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Each one has its own unique charm, and they’re just as fun to read today as they were years ago.

Here are a few classic Dr. Seuss favorites:

  • Green Eggs and Ham
  • Hop on Pop
  • One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish
  • The Foot Book
  • Horton Hears a Who
  • The Sneetches
  • Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?
  • Bartholomew and the Oobleck
  • The Butter Battle Book
  • The Cat In The Hat
  • Fox in Socks
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Thank you for joining me for today’s Flashback Friday Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss post. Let me know down in the comments what your favorite Dr. Seuss book is—I would love to know!

I’m also curious… do you prefer the original books, or do you enjoy the TV and movie adaptations as well? Some of those classics have been turned into pretty fun films over the years.

And one more question: have you ever tried green eggs and ham for breakfast? Even though I made that meal myself, I have to admit it was still a little tough choking it down! Perhaps I used a bit too much green food coloring.
