Welcome back to the craft room for today’s Flashback Friday: Sending Sunshine Card post! It’s time for another bright spring card to chase away the winter chill. While this background may look like one of my usual iffy ink blends, it’s actually a bit different. The Hero Arts stamp used in this project creates its design in a unique way—the white poppies are simply the cardstock showing through the stamped image. Instead of blending ink onto the background, I applied Memento inks directly to the stamp before pressing it onto the paper. Curious to see how it all came together? Sending Sunshine Card
With my Hero Arts cling stamp “Poppy Background” I made this fun little card. To get this look, I applied the ink directly to the stamp starting with the lightest color first and ending with the darkest. With this technique, there is no way to know what final image will look like. You will also never get an exact duplicate no matter how many times you create this image.
The inks used were Memento DewDrops in Dandelion, Cantaloupe, Tangelo, and Lady Bug. I also used Memento Tuxedo Black for the greeting as well as to go around the edge of the image. The greeting is from Theresa Momber’s Sending Sunshine stamp set.

However, I do with the color transitions were a bit smoother. It looks like a cantaloupe or tangelo Dew Drop ink pad ended up in the dandelion ink—so I figured, why not make it look intentional by adding a few extra marks? Since I was inking a red rubber stamp, there was no way to see the blending before stamping, so I’m guessing those extra marks were a creative fix after the fact. If I were to use this stamp again, I’d apply the ink with the pads first, then use an ink blending brush to smooth everything out.
