Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Tic Tac Toe post. I always loved playing tic-tac-toe as a child, so when this card challenge came around, I was all in! Since I was still relatively new to card making at the time, I didn’t have a ton of supplies to choose from. That meant getting a little creative—especially when it came to making a flower. Let’s take a look at the game board and the line I chose to follow.
Tic Tac Toe
This week’s Live Chat Challenge on StampTV was a fun twist: tic-tac-toe! Below is the game board, and the idea was to use items from any row—across, down, diagonally, or even the four corners.
When I first started planning my card, I selected flowers, pearls, and pink. I was using the tiny pearls as flower centers, but as I worked through the design, I wasn’t loving how they looked. So I pivoted a bit—swapping the pearls for brads, which gave a cleaner, more defined look. I also added some texture to the background with an embossing folder. In the end, I followed the top row of the board: embossing, brads, and flowers.
I really like the concept behind this card, though I think it still needs a little fine-tuning. The flowers are handmade using a Labels 4 Nestabilities die. I also used a foliage die and the Brick Wall embossing folder to add dimension and detail. The inks on the card base are all Distress Inks: Tea Dye, Vintage Photo, and Fired Brick. I added just a touch of Worn Lipstick to the flower petals for a subtle pop of pink.
Here’s another card using the same idea, but this time I went with a single large flower for a slightly different look.
The card base is 80 lb. Pure Luxury cardstock in Ivory, and the additional papers are all from Bazzill.
