Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Victrola Birthday Card post. Back in February 2012, I discovered the drop shadow stamping technique and couldn’t wait to try it. Using a solid flower stamp and various Memento Ink colors, I experimented with layering shadows for a unique effect. You can check out my Flashback Friday Drop Shadow post to see the results. For today’s card, I used the same technique but added a twist. I love how it turned out! Keep reading to see the process.
Victrola Birthday
I had an idea I wanted to try. During the drop shadow challenge, I saw a card by Golda featuring an old Victrola. It reminded me that I do have this stamp set! Instead of using the drop shadow technique on the Victrola, as Golda did, I wanted to apply it to the music notes flowing from the bell.
I used stamps from the Gleefully Yours set by Nina Brackett, stamping and embossing the Victrola with Vivid Dye ink in brown. The music notes were stamped with Summer Sky and Paris Dusk Memento inks, while ‘Happy Birthday’ was also stamped in Paris Dusk. After stamping the notes in Summer Sky, I ‘huffed’ on the stamp to reactivate any leftover ink, then stamped again to create a softer shadow effect. To add warmth and depth, I distressed this layer with Antique Linen, Tea Dye, and Vintage Photo Distress inks. The second layer is a piece of buckskin brown paper from The Paper Company, which has a leather-like texture. I love how it feels and the richness it adds to the card!

While the notes and sentiment look nice in blue, I might choose a different color next time for better contrast. With its antique feel, this birthday card was the perfect choice for a dear family friend, so I set it aside for his birthday later in the year.
