Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Wedding Card & Faux Layers post. Back in October 2012, a dear family friend invited my mom and me to her son’s wedding. It took some time to come up with the perfect wedding card design, but I ultimately settled on a clean and simple style that I absolutely love. In addition to that card, I also want to share two other designs I created for the 2012 World Card Making Day, both featuring a faux layering technique.
Wedding Card & Faux Layers
I haven’t spent much time at my scrap desk lately. However, when my mom and I were invited to the wedding of a dear family friend’s son, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to create something special. After exploring several design ideas, I finally settled on a simple yet elegant card. It beautifully incorporated the wedding colors—sapphire blue, silver, and a touch of yellow.
The text, both inside and out, is completely computer-generated using the ChopinScript font. The card base is made from Pure Luxury white cardstock, while the silver and blue layers are crafted from shiny cardstock for an elegant touch. To match the wedding colors, I customized the ribbon by starting with a white base and coloring it with a Y15 Cadmium Yellow Copic marker.
The inside of the card follows the same elegant design. The sentiment is also computer-generated using the ChopinScript font, keeping the style cohesive. To complement the front, I incorporated the same shiny silver and blue cardstock elements inside. The white base provides a clean backdrop, allowing the colors to stand out beautifully.
My mom and I had a wonderful time reconnecting with family and friends in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and the wedding was absolutely beautiful!
Faux Layers
This past Saturday, October 6th, was World Card Making Day. To celebrate, StampTV hosted another fantastic challenge called Faux Layers. The goal was to create the illusion of layers on a card without actually using extra paper or glue. For my first card, I achieved this effect by using two Nestabilities dies—a circle and a scalloped circle—to create the appearance of dimension. I then stamped flowers from the StampTV set Friends Are Forever with Memento ink. To bring them to life I used Copic markers in Y15, G09, and RV13.
For the next card, I created my “layer” by masking off a section of the card. I then used blending Memento inks in Cantaloupe and Tangelo to achieve a beautiful sunset effect. To complete the design, I used a combination of stamps from the Wild About You set by Theresa Momber. I also added embossed lines for extra texture and detail.

Looking back at these projects, I have to say that while both faux layers cards were fun to create, the second one is definitely my favorite! I love how the warm sunset tones and embossed details came together to create a striking design. Of course, the wedding card holds a special place in my heart since it was made for such a meaningful occasion, and I was so happy with how it reflected the wedding colors.
