Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Weekly Challenge Wrap post. Let’s take a look at the challenges I participated in during the second week of July 2011. The techniques couldn’t be more different, but both were such fun ways to stretch my creativity in new directions. Let’s jump right in!
StampTV Weekly Challenge
It’s time for another round of wonderful challenges at StampTV! Since I had a few days before my next class started—and I wanted to get those creative juices flowing before heading to the Rubber Stamp and Scrapbook Expo this weekend—I decided to play along.
The Mix It Up Monday Challenge was hosted by the talented design team member, Cat. Her challenge this week was a direct-to-paper technique called “Swipe On… Swipe Off.”
The card I created was my first attempt at a sunset scene with a few wispy cirrus clouds. I used Memento inks in Dandelion, Cantaloupe, and Tangelo for the sunset, and added the clouds with London Fog. The pine tree stamp is from Tim Holtz, inked with Peeled Paint Distress Ink.
I also joined in on the Free For All Friday Challenge, hosted by another very talented design team member, Donna. This one was all about Reverse Spotlighting. One of my very first blog posts here was actually an example of the regular Spotlight technique.
The reverse version, however, was a little more challenging—lol! After stamping the flower image on white cardstock, I stamped a few of the same flowers on yellow cardstock and cut them out. Then, using a Nestabilities circle die, I cut out a few circles from the white cardstock. NOW came the tricky part—lining up the yellow flowers underneath the original image! It took a few tries, but once I backed it with black cardstock to really make the colors pop, I think it turned out great.
