Flashback Friday Yellow Daffodils and Birthday

Posted on January 31, 2025January 30, 2025 by Leen

Welcome back to the craft room for todayโ€™s Flashback Friday: Yellow Daffodils and Birthday post! Back in April 2010, I joined a color challenge on my favorite site, StampTV. With such beautiful spring colors, I couldnโ€™t resist using the Sending Sunshine stamp set by the talented Theresa Momber. For some reason, I decided to do a bit of fussy cuttingโ€”why, Iโ€™m not sureโ€”but the result was a lovely card. Let me show you what I created and how I made it even better! Stick around until the end for a bonus birthday card!

Yellow Daffodils & Happy Birthday

Daffodils

Yesterday I created a fun little card for this weeks color challenge at StampTV. The challenge was to use white, yellow, and black with an accent color if needed. Here is the card I made:

I used Theresa Momberโ€™s Sending Sunshine large daffodils stamp, adding a few extra layers to each flower for some added dimension. The background paper started out white, but I added some Creative Living ink in Sunshine (I bought this years ago at the Dollar Store), and colored the flowers with my Martha Stewart craft markers in daffodil, glade, and evergreen.

Yes itโ€™s a very pretty card, and Iโ€™ve received some great comments at StampTV, but something about it nagged away at me, something was missing. It finally hit in the middle of the night, it needed to have a black mat under the white strip of paper to pop it off the page. It nagged at me so much that today I made one more with the added strip, and I think it looks MUCH better!

Am I right?? Much better huh!

Birthday

Here is another card I made tonight for my friendโ€™s birthday. She is a very outdoorsy kind of lady, so I think this card will be perfect for her. The inspiration came again from Theresa Momberโ€™s card Special Wishes. While the original card is no longer available online, you can check out more of her work on her YouTube channel @TheresaMomber for more inspiration!

Here is my version:

I donโ€™t have the GinaK Stamps for this so instead I started my card by embossing the Hero Arts โ€œSilhouette Sprayโ€ with white embossing powder. Then I used โ€œAntique Linenโ€ Distress Ink to cover the image and then added โ€œVintage Photoโ€ to give it more color.

Thanks for looking and donโ€™t forget, I love to get feedback on my work.

Thank you for joining me for todayโ€™s Flashback Friday: Yellow Daffodils and Birthday post. Even after all these years, I still prefer the updated daffodil card with the black mat behind the white embossed bandโ€”it feels like the finishing touch the original design needed. What do you think? Do you prefer the original or the updated version? I also love how the mottled background turned out on this card. While Iโ€™ve always struggled to achieve smooth ink blends, the soft variation in color perfectly captures the look and feel of a spring day. And as much as I love the daffodil background, I might love the birthday card background even more! Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Have a fantastic weekend, and Iโ€™ll see you back in the craft room soon!
