Color Challenge Inspiration
We have a fun inspiration this month with many different color options to chose from. When I first saw this can of Duffer Larger I had to smile. The colors on here are so fun, and there are so many to chose from. I can’t wait to see what color combinations you all pick out of the multitude of options. There’s different shades of blue, red, pink, a bit of purple, and a few shades of green. What colors will you chose? Let me show you what I did.

I kinda cheated a bit this month. I started working on my piece back in February 2022, but never finished it. When I chose the inspiration above, I thought this would be the perfect time to finish it.

No-Line Watercolor
Back in February of 2022 I gave no-line watercolor a try. I began with the True Friend stamp by Memory Box & Simon Says Stamp. It was stamped onto a piece of Canson XL watercolor paper with the No Line Coloring Ink by Honey Bee Stamps.

The image below is the one I shared on Instagram at the time. As you can see, I didn’t make it very far. I have seen so many amazing color artists achieve stunning affects with no-line water color, and this just looked silly to me.

When I pulled it back out, I decided to just go for it. I used a number of different Distress Inks as my watercolor palette. Starting with Worn Lipstick, Seedless Preserves, Scattered Straw, and Mustard Seed for the flowers. For the stems I used Rustic Wilderness, and for the leaves, Mowed Lawn and Crushed Olive.
The Background
For the background I started with another piece of Canson XL watercolor paper and heat embossed the Modern Plaid background stamp from The Ton Stamps with Ranger White embossing powder. To add color I chose to channel my sweet mom who loved the color green. Rather than just ink blend the colors onto the card, I decided to use the ink smooshing technique. I layered Mowed Lawn, Crushed Olive, and just a bit of Rustic Wilderness onto my glass mat. Spraying some water down to get the color moving, I started picking up and blending the color. After letting it air dry I cut it to size with my A2 Layers Die set from Waffle Flower and then added a bit more Crushed Olive and Rustic Wilderness to the edges with a blending brush.

The sentiment is hot foiled with the Mini Everyday Occasions set by Spellbinders. The sentiment is cut out with the matching die included in the set. To mat the sentiment, I used the same die and cut it from gold mirror card. Because it was the same length as the sentiment strip, I cut the mat in half and carefully glued it to the back of the sentiment leaving about the same amount of space on both ends.
To add some dimension to the floral image, I cut two additional layers from 110lb card. All three layers are glued together with Art Glitter Glue. It adds the perfect amount of dimension.

May Workplace Color Challenge Card
I added a gold mirror mat to the card and adhered it to a 110lb white card base by Recollections. I am so proud of myself for finishing this card, and I think it turned out great for a first try at this technique.

Now I want to see what your creation will be with the inspiration photo above. Will you chose to use more of the blues, maybe the red?? After you create your project, please post a link in the comments below so I can take a look!
