Welcome back to the craft room for today’s New Product, Old Stash, Two Valentine Cards post! If you’re like me, your craft room might be overflowing with supplies you haven’t touched in years. I managed to resist buying too many new items in 2024, but a few fresh additions made their way in. Today, I’m excited to show you how I combined two older supplies with a brand-new die set to create two unique Valentine’s Day cards. Let’s dive in and get crafting!
Card #1
Sweet Talk Die Set
My final craft supply purchase of 2024 was a lucky one—I won a gift card to the online store This Calls for Confetti! Last week, I shared my Make a Winter Poinsettia Card post, which featured the cover plate die from that purchase. Today, I’m excited to showcase another find from that haul: the Sweet Talk die set. This versatile Valentine’s Day set isn’t just for February—it’s perfect for creating love-themed cards all year round!
For the first card, I used gold foil cardstock from Recollections to cut the large heart and the ‘XOXO’ mat, creating a touch of elegance. The inner heart and ‘XOXO’ are cut from scraps of 110lb Recollections cardstock, while the smaller hearts came from a dark red cardstock. To give those tiny hearts added depth and dimension, I shaded the cardstock with an R59 Copic marker before cutting them out—a technique I also used in my Winter Poinsettia card.
Cuttlebug Embossing Folder
For this card, I’m pairing the new die set with a much older Cuttlebug embossing folder that’s been sitting unused in my stash for years! This gorgeous textured folder is part of the Orients set, which includes four unique designs. Unfortunately, this set is no longer available for purchase—I searched for a link to share but came up empty. It’s possible you might find it in an occasional eBay auction, but for now, it remains a cherished throwback from my collection.
To emboss the 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Recollections cardstock, I’ll be using my reliable Sizzix Big Shot machine. Since embossing folder setups can vary depending on the machine, I’m sharing a look at the sandwich that works for mine. In the photo below, you’ll see my setup includes the Big Shot base plate, a Magic Mat from Scrapbook.com, the embossing folder with the cardstock inside, a Sizzix cutting plate, and a cardstock shim for added pressure.
Making the Card
To assemble the card, I started with a 4.25″ x 5.5″ white card base made from 110lb Recollections cardstock. For a touch of extra shine, I added a gold foil mat cut to approximately 4.125″ x 5.375″. I adhered the embossed layer and the gold foil mat to the card base using a combination of 1/4″ Scor-Tape and Art Glitter Glue. This created a secure and polished finish.
I adhered the heart and sentiment layers together using Art Glitter Glue. Once the sentiment was securely placed at the center of the heart, I scattered the tiny red hearts around it to add a pop of color. To create more dimension, I used 3L Thin Foam Squares to pop up the heart on the card front, giving the design a touch of depth and visual interest.

Echo Park Love Notes
My second card starts with the charming 6×6 Echo Park Love Notes paper pack. I’m fairly certain this was a free gift with purchase from Scrapbook.com, as I usually only buy Christmas-themed paper. According to the copyright on the packaging, this collection is from 2023, and today is the first time I’ve truly explored it! The pack includes a mix of adorable, though sometimes busy, patterns alongside more subtle designs. For this card, I chose one of the less busy patterns to use as the card front.
Making the card
To give this card a different look from the first, I decided to opt for a gorgeous rose gold metallic cardstock from Recollections. Its softer tone pairs beautifully with the aqua in the patterned paper. I cut a 4″ x 5.25″ mat from the metallic cardstock. I also cut the outer heart and the mat layer for the ‘XOXO’ sentiment. To tie the designs together, I cut a few more of the red hearts from the first card.
After adhering the card layers together using Scor-Tape and securing the heart layers with Art Glitter Glue, I took a moment to decide how to attach the heart to the card front. I took a moment to decide how to attach the heart to the card front. After some deliberation, I chose to glue the heart directly onto the card for a clean, simple finish. To add a sweet detail, I glued one of the larger red hearts inside the card as well.
