One Sheet Wonder: 4 Cards from 6×6 Paper

Welcome back to the craft room and today’s One Sheet Wonder: 4 Cards from 6×6 Paper post.
If you’re anything like me, you probably have a huge stash of 6×6 paper pads—or plenty of 12×12 sheets just waiting to be trimmed down. While I absolutely love patterned paper, I often find myself unsure how to incorporate it into my card making. Today, I want to help all of us put those beautiful papers to good use with a One Sheet Wonder template I created. It’s a fast and fun way to make a coordinated set of four cards—with ZERO scraps left over!

One Sheet Wonder

In case you didn’t already know, a One Sheet Wonder is a papercrafting technique where you use an entire sheet of patterned paper—with little to no waste—to create multiple cards. Depending on the cutting template and the paper you choose, the finished cards can either coordinate with a similar look or each have a unique design. It’s a fun and efficient way to stretch your paper stash and quickly build a batch of handmade cards!

Today, I’m excited to share a One Sheet Wonder template I created to help us put those 6×6 patterned papers to good use. Here’s a quick peek at the cutting guide I’ll be using for today’s project! My first set of cards is super clean and simple, but still so much fun to make! I’m using a playful piece of patterned paper from the Altenew Sweet Moments paper pack. All of the sentiments come from the Stampabilities Card Phrases stamp set—it’s packed with a great variety of sayings and the perfect sizes for card fronts. Be sure to stick around until the end of the post, because I’ll be sharing a second set of cards that’s a little more detailed and fancy. The best part? You can dress these designs up or keep them simple, and they’ll look amazing either way! Let’s dive into card #1!

Card #1

To make our first card, you’ll need four 1.5″ x 1.5″ squares of patterned paper. To mat those squares, cut four pieces of cardstock to 1.75″ x 1.75″. I’m using a piece of red cardstock from my stash that I’ve had for years—love when we can finally use those older supplies! At this point, you could easily glue everything together and have a really pretty card. But if you want to dress it up just a bit, I’m using my We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper to round two opposite corners on each square. I’m using the 1/2″ side today, but honestly, the 1/4″ side would look just as cute!

After gluing the squares to their mats, it’s time to place them on the card base. To help line everything up, I’m using my Club Scrap centering ruler. I found that leaving a 3/8″ margin along the top and sides works perfectly. This also gives a nice even space between the squares. For the sentiment, I’m using the “Just Because…” stamp, inked up with Gina K Amalgam Ink in Obsidian Black, and stamping it directly onto the card base.

Card #2

Card #2 is the easiest card we’ll be making today! The patterned paper is cut to 3″ x 3″, and the mat is cut to 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″. In this example, I did keep the corners square. However, if you want to switch things up, rounding the corners would give you another fun look for this card.

When applying the square to the card front, a 1/2″ border on three sides looks just right. I stamped the “Thinking of You” sentiment directly onto the card front, and just like that, my card is finished!

Card #3

Card #3 is still a very simple one to put together. The patterned paper is cut to 1″ x 4″, and the mat is cut to 3 1/2″ x 4 1/4″. I lined up the paper strips with about a 1/8″ border all around for a clean and balanced look.

After adhering the strips to the mat, place it onto the card base with a 3/8″ border all around. I stamped the “Get Well Soon” sentiment directly onto the card base, and this card is also finished.

Card #4

For the fourth and final card in our set, let’s start by embossing a panel that measures 4″ x 5.25″. For today’s example, I’m using an embossing folder from the Oriental Cuttlebug die set. This adds a nice, subtle texture while also creating a distinct contrast with the white card base.

To adhere the matted patterned paper to the embossed panel, I’m placing it with a 7/8″ border from the top of the panel. The first and third pieces will be positioned 1/2″ from either end of the panel. The center piece, it will be placed between the two pieces already adhered to the card mat, leaving about a 5/8″ margin on either side.

Because of the embossed mat, I chose to stamp my sentiment, “Just for You,” onto a scrap piece of cardstock. This sentiment is a bit tall. So I did trim the mat down to a slim 1/16″ border around the sentiment strip. To add a bit of dimension, I popped it up with Thin 3D Foam Squares.

Christmas Card Set

For my second set of cards in today’s One Sheet Wonder: 4 Cards from 6×6 Paper, I’m using a piece of plaid paper from the Recollections Christmas Plaids paper pad. The mats for this set are made with 110lb black cardstock, also from Recollections. The stamp set I’m using is one I got from my cousin during a crafty de-stash she did—such a fun surprise! Just like with the first set, all of the sentiments were stamped with GinaK Designs Amalgam ink. To dress these cards up a little more, I’m adding some die-cut poinsettias using the Layered Poinsettia die set from Spellbinders. I actually borrowed this set from my sister for another idea, but they ended up fitting perfectly here! The poinsettia layers are cut from 110lb white cardstock and some gold foil cardstock, both from Recollections.
