Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Fun with Alcohol Inks post. Back in June of 2012 I had a fun time playing my small supply of Ranger Alcohol Inks. To create the stunning affects on these cards I used a variety of supplies including a straw. While I learned this technique on YouTube, I now know how dangerous it could be. Breathing in the fumes of the alcohol is not a smart thing to do. Even though I was incredibly careful while making these projects, I know there were a few times I did breath in through the straw. Since this post, Tim Holtz has developed a safer way to do this with his Air Blower. Having said that, let me show you what I created.
Fun with Alcohol Inks
Yesterday while following a link to a YouTube video, I came across another video with a fun technique using alcohol inks. The video made by Sara from Time for Crafting is called “Blowing Alcohol Inks to Create a Stunning Background”.
This project looked like so much fun I had to try it. Using a combination of alcohol inks, acetate or glossy card stock, and a straw, you can create some amazing images like the ones below.
On these first four cards, I used a transparency sheet, adding the color on the rough side. I then used mini brads to attach them to the card stock with the shiny side facing out and the ink towards the card stock. On the first card, I used Archival Ink in Jet Black to stamp Happy Birthday. On the other cards I used some score lines to add some interest. The inks used are Wild Plum, Butterscotch, Stream, & Lettuce.
For the last two cards I used some scrap pieces of glossy card stock. The colors aren’t as bright as they are on the transparency, but they are still very pretty.
The colors on the card above are Cranberry, Butterscotch, Stream, and Lettuce.
This last card after I finished with the cranberry ink, reminded me of a poinsettia, so I added two different shades of green, Meadow & Lettuce, to represent leaves and a dot of Butterscotch for the center of the flower. Thank you for joining me for today’s Flashback Friday Fun with Alcohol Inks post. These cards are simply beautiful with the bright vibrant colors of the alcohol inks. There is almost a glow to the inks on the acetate sheet that I can’t explain. I am also pretty darn impressed with myself on the last card. I had no intention of creating a flower, it turned out to be a beautiful accident. One of these day’s I am going to have to get my alcohol inks back out for another session.
