Welcome back to the craft room and today’s Flashback Friday Paper Piecing Outside post. When I began making my own greeting cards, I received the majority of my inspiration from GinaK and the StampTV community. Today’s card was no exception. I am fascinated when people are able to fussy cut an image and it looks perfect. I am not so lucky. My fussy cutting results tend to be rather wonky and I have to make more than one attempt at it. Today’s card was no exception to that rule. If memory serves, I had to cut more than three of those little flowers in order to finish the project. Let’s not waste any more time…
Paper Piecing Outside the Lines
We all know how fun and sometimes frustrating paper piecing can be, they don’t call it “fussy” cutting for nothing! This past week GinaK had another great video up over at StampTV that took paper piecing just a step farther. Here’s a link to the video Paper Piecing Outside the Lines.
Here is my card with this fun technique. The measurements of the layers are: card base – 5.25” x 3.5”, black mat – 5″ x 3.25″, background pattern paper – 4.75″ x 3″.
I started with a stamp from the GinaK Friends are Forever set and stamped the image on white cardstock. I then stamped the image again on a piece of pattern paper and cut out the flowers. Now, if you know this stamp set, you know these flowers are on the small size…I don’t know WHAT I was thinking trying this technique with these small blossoms! Anyway… I added some color to the stems with a colored pencil and then using a smaller Nestabilities Oval die, I cut and embossed the image, making sure to remove some of the flowers. The blossoms were then glued into place with a Zig 2-way glue pen. To mat this layer, I used the matching Nestabilities Scalloped Oval die and black card.
The card is layered with black cardstock and a piece of the same pattern paper. Again I have a sad attempt at using ribbon on my cards…lol when will I learn?!?!?!?!?!
