Hello my friends and welcome back to the craft room and today’s project the Lost Shadow Birthday Card. My inspiration for the background of this card came from the ever talented Paula from the One Lucky Day blog. She shared a beautiful folio using the newest Distress color Lost Shadow and Kitsch Flamingo and I fell in love. Here’s a link to her Lost Shadow Accordion Folio. Let me show you how I created my background.
The Background
I began with the Kitsch Flamingo Distress ink and a piece of GinaK 110lb card. To do the ink smooshing for this project, I grabbed a small plastic stamp envelope. Adding the ink directly to the envelope I gave it a little sprits of water and then applied it to the card base. Using this technique, I was able to place the amount of color directly where I wanted it.

Next I added the Lost Shadow Distress ink to the card in the same manor. It is difficult to see this pretty gray color in the photos. However, in person you can really see the texture this particular technique leaves on the paper.

After letting the panel air dry I taped my background panel to the Quarterfoil stencil by Clear Scraps. Using a blending foam I added the Lost Shadow Distress paint in sections. This was the first time I have used Distress paint and it was a dream to work with. I love how this light application does not take over the entire look of the piece. When I was happy with the amount of coverage, I set the background aside again to air dry.

When the panel was dry I cut it down to the size I wanted with my Waffle Flower A2 die set. For this card I wanted a rather large white boarder so the panel is cut down to 3.5″ x 4.75″. To add a more definitive boarder around the outer edge of the card I added more Distress Lost Shadow ink with a blending brush. In the image below you can now see the added texture created by putting the ink onto a plastic surface and then smooshing it to paper.

The Floral Image
The floral element for this birthday card began with the Pinkfresh Studio It’s a New Day Floral stamp set an Hickory Smoke Distress Archival Ink. I didn’t want to add too many different colors to this card so I stayed with the pink and gray.

Using a small detail blending brush I added Kitsch Flamingo the petals. I kept the first layer very light and then went in again to add more detail with the pink ink. The leaves were colored in the same way; first with a light layer of the Lost Shadow and then more detail to add shadows.

When the background was dry and the floral elements finished, I once again added a light layer of the Distress Micro Glaze over everything. This is my new final step for anything that is water reactive. After a light layer of the glaze, the Distress inks are now waterproof.

The sentiment is one I created a few months ago, so I don’t have any images to share with you. It was created with the Spellbinders Be Bold Sentiments hot foil set. I foiled a bunch of these sentiments in both gold and silver foil, and the silver is perfect for this card!

The Finished Birthday Card
I am over the moon happy with how this card turned out! It is so very pretty and delicate. The flowers were glued down to the card front with Art Glitter Glue. The background panel was adhered with Scor-tape to the Recollections 110lb card base.

I did add thin foam squares by Scrapbook Adhesives to the sentiment strips. As you can see in the image below, I should have cut out another layer of the birthday sentiment from cardstock. Adding another layer to the portion that is laying on the flower would have leveled it out a lot more.

I have had so much fun with this new Distress color. In cased you missed them, here are two other cards made with Lost Shadow.
