Thank you for joining me for today’s Mini Slimline Graduation Card With Free SVG post. It’s hard to believe, but it is graduation season again. In our family, the first great-nephew is graduating from high school. It seems like just yesterday he was a feisty little boy, and now he is walking across the stage into adulthood. To commemorate this occasion, I created a graduation card SVG just for him. You can download the file for free here: CL_Graduation_Card_SVG. Graduation Card SVG
I am still learning how to create SVG’s in Affinity Designer, but I am having tons of fun doing it. In this file you will have access to the following items: 1 mini slimline card base, two sets of mats for each panel, extra text to elevate your card, and a graduation cap and tassel to decorate the front of the card. I have also included a small pocket that is the perfect size to fit a gift card or a cash gift. This card is a mini slimline style that measures 3.25” x 6.25”. The card base can be cut on any of the Cricut machines except the Cricut Joy.
One thing I’m not sure about can be seen in the image on the right. For some odd reason, when I upload the file to Cricut Design Space, the cap and tassel are no longer together as they are in the file image on the left. I am researching a solution to this, but rest assured, the file still works as intended.
Card Stock
All of the card stock I used in today’s project is 65 lb Recollections from Michael’s. The school colors for my nephew are blue and gold, so I also used a piece of Gold Foil card stock, also by Recollections. When cutting the different pieces for my card, I utilized two cutting mats. While the font I chose is rather chunky, I still wanted to make sure it cut correctly. To ensure this, I chose to use the “card stock for intricate cuts” setting. If you don’t see that option, go to “All Materials” and search for “Card Stock for Intricate Cuts”. If you think this may be a setting you will use often, bookmark it by clicking on the little bookmark image to the right of your screen.
When I made my original sample card, I only put the card mats on the “inside” of the card. After looking at it a bit more, I decided I needed to cut an additional set of mats for the center portion of the card. I will put a before and after photo below so you can decide which one you prefer.
Making The Mini Slimline Graduation Card
After all of your pieces are cut, begin by folding the card base. The Cricut scoring stylist will create a lighter score line than I would normally make with a score board. I was a little concerned it wouldn’t be deep enough, but with the 65lb card, it is perfect. Score and crease the card base before setting it aside to prep the mats.
Using the adhesive of your choice, glue the mats together, and then adhere the mats to the card base. Because I used a lighter weight card, I chose to use Scor-tape for this. Typically when working with 65lb white or light colored card and wet glue, I can see the glue lines when the layers are put together. That is not the case with Scor-tape or other tape adhesives. I did switch to Art Glitter Glue for the gold text, the cap and tassel, as well as the pocket.
The little pocket is the perfect size to hold a gift card or cash. You might be able to use 1/8” score tape to adhere it to the card, but wet glue is the better choice. I chose to use an old hotel key card to mold the pocket around before the glue was completely dry. This insured the gift card would fit perfectly.

Here is a look at it with the “gift card” in the pocket. As you can see, there is plenty of room and the gift card is secure.
